Today's Headlines (27 October 2026)

1. July 2026 DA hike still waiting for Cabinet

The July 2026 Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief revision has not been announced yet. Cabinet meetings on 6, 14 and 16 October passed without a DA decision, and no meeting was held around Dussehra (21 October). Reports now point to the Cabinet meeting expected on Wednesday, 28 October 2026. The CPI-IW data already fixes the rate at 63% (from 60%). If approved this week, employees would typically get four months of arrears (July–October) with the November salary. A Level 5 employee on ₹29,200 basic would gain about ₹876 a month. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the latest news on the 8th Pay Commission today?
As of 27 October 2026, the Commission has finished its notified state visits (last: Mumbai, 22–23 October). It has not announced a fitment factor or pay matrix. Its report is due around May 2027. Separately, the July 2026 DA hike (expected 60% → 63%) is still awaiting Cabinet approval.
Has the 8th Pay Commission fitment factor been announced?
No. Employee bodies have proposed 3x to 4x (NC-JCM 3.833, BPMS 4.0, FNPO 3.25, AITUC 3.0), while analysts expect about 1.83x–2.46x. The official figure will come only with the report.
When will 8th Pay Commission salary be paid?
Only after the report (due around May 2027) is accepted and the pay rules are notified. On past timelines, revised salary would likely start between late 2027 and 2028, with arrears from the effective date (widely expected to be 1 January 2026).
Is DA going to be merged with basic pay?
The Government told the Lok Sabha on 1 December 2025 that there is no proposal to merge existing DA with basic pay. DA is absorbed only when a new pay matrix starts, through the fitment factor.
